Re: Hi folks!

Thanks. I'm doing well. 20 yr relationship went :boom: - sold the house, split the proceeds and moved to Charleston SC

Loving life now. I didn't expect the house sale to take 10 months - memo, never pack your flightsim stuff for the movers to take to storage

Re: Fuel and Route Planning

PFPX - Professional Flight Planner X from Aerosoft after aircraft and Active Sky this is the best addon I've ever used. ETOPS planning, ICAO/EUOPS/US fuel planning. You get a one year server access and I just had to buy the coupon for another year, this gives you access to weather, winds and the NAT...

ya, FAA released the restriction on KNxx airport codes. KNxx were reserved for US Navy installations before.

Re: Advice for Student Pilots – Top 10 List

hahahaha, nice ones As a former Air Traffic Controller that has helped dozens of lost pilots. File that VFR flight plan and activate it! Get VFR flight following from ATC, some controllers find it a pain, but I always preferred to talk to them so I know what you are doing. We can keep you out of res...

Re: IFR Question

You can never descend below the DH/MDA unless you have ground contact or runway/approach lights.

Circle to land minimums are usually higher because of obstructions.

Re: How Many Mistakes Can You Spot?

More than 5. Sheesh, these are ATP certified pilots..... Way high and fast, bad. Then disconnecting the autothrottle, then flight level change when below the altitude on the MCP. I seriously think this was get there itis, they should have gone around on numerous decision points. I think the last cha...

Re: Is Boeing 767 Running out of Time?

I read an article a few months ago that basically said the 787 was mostly to replace the 767 - especially the range and fuel efficiency. Plus the 787 cruises at M0.85. That AeroMexico from JFK to MMMX hurt my feelings last winter. He was smoking fast behind the B738 going to TPA

Re: Go Around!

one of my 'rejected' pireps was because I didn't go around in the 777 at Boston, hit windshear around 400ft and it was a HARD landing. Also a 'tad' short, like in the grass.....

Re: KTPA MYNN A320 Airbus X Extended

The Aerosoft A320/321 package is very nice. It's not a PMDG, but it is very well done. Biggest challenge is remembering Airbus approach is pilot is managing the aircraft's flight. Boeing is the pilot is flying and the systems are setup for that. First time you put in a flight plan will hurt your hea...

Re: Sky Whale

I'm sure there is a market for that, but currently the A380 has limited markets basically because of demand. The holy grail would be a supersonic efficient aircraft that could do LAX- Tokyo in 3 hours or so. LAX to Sydney in 6 with a refueling stop in Honolulu. NYC to Europe in 2-3 hours, or NYC to ...

Tweaks for FSX performance

A friend of mine passed these on - huge improvement. Set your antivirus software to not realtime scan the FSX folder. Flightsim is constantly loading files. With McAfee I have to turn off realtime scanning completely (set to resume on computer restart) Doing this alone bumped me by approximately 75%...

Re: PMDG B777-200 Released for FSX

I'm getting used to the virtual cockpit, hated them, but it is growing on me with the A320 and the 772- i'm now using the virtual in the 737  One quick way to get to the overhead is right click in the windshield, it opens a view menu. same thing coming out of overhead or pedestal view, right cl...

Yes on the discount, it was about 10E or so off.

Interesting going into ATL, there was just a hint of light turbulence, amazing difference from the 'old' flight sim turbulence.

Not looking forward to my first windshear experience, or am I

Active Sky Next

It's out and I have to say it is an amazing improvement. Highly recommend it! I was flying around Sao Paulo around thunderstorms. The tops were above FL400, probably around FL450. I'll have to try and get some screen shots. Just flew from DCA to ATL - snowing in Washington, light turbulence through ...

Peter the 64bit makes the difference. Memory issues. Did you check the flightsim forums for tips? There are some good ones out there on settings etc. I don't get awesome frame rates but they are acceptable.

Re: Poll: Accelerated Time Mode Usage

I have flown for various VAs. All have allowed time acceleration in some form. Most were of the variety of 'not recommended' with a restriction of - if time acceleration is used, it may only be used up to 4x in cruise flight. Climb and descent/approach not authorized. I've been here 15yrs or so, so ...
