Re: Around the World Flight

Well, I've gone and done it a second time now. I only managed one flight per month, so it was like taking a slow boat to China, but I got 'er done. KSFO-KTPA, 14FEB2010, 4.7hrs, 2157nm KTPA-EBBR, 01MAR2010, 8.8hrs, 4138nm EBBR-WSSS, 22APR2010, 11.9hrs, 5813nm WSSS-YSSY, 23MAY2010, 7.8hrs, 3533nm YSS...

Re: POLL: Max Touchdown Rate Allowed

Before I read any of the followup posts I was in favor of the initial proposal disallowing flights to be logged if TDR was greater than 700 fpm. I read some good comments that have led me to change my mind. Maybe some of us treat it more like a hobby, but we're here because generally we're good at i...

Re: What is ICAO?

Good information, but... ...in Europe, all airport ICAO codes begin with the letter E... I think France, Italy, Spain, etc, would be amused to find they aren't in Europe. (Their airport ICAO codes begin with the letter L.) I also believe IATA has standardized 3-digit codes for airplane types, ...

Retroactive.

Some planes are easier to land than others, though, so maybe need/want to keep separate lists by type?

Retroactive? I have 14 in my logs, two on the same day twice. Best was -11fps. I'm sure others have more/better.

No -300s? They seem to be more of a direct replacement for the 747-400.

Re: How do people fly 8-9 hr blocks?

Did you know that you can set FSACARS to pause at x miles from your destination? Using this you don't have to worry about the co-pilot forgetting to wake you up in time to land the aircraft. You will find this on the OPTIONS menu but you can only set it while in flight. Does FSACARS then hook into ...

FS9 here. I tend to skip every other version so I don't have to upgrade my hardware too often.

Re: Raising Interest in SAX Group Flights

Prefer flying solo, not group flying. At the very least, prefer everyone flying from their own starting point to a predefined place and time, such as the VATSIM 15-year anniversary fly-in early this year. Also enjoy being part of a special-purpose airlift, like when we flew Dave Vega home from Iraq ...

Re: Preflight Time Poll

And for me: 1. Get route from SAX POC or, rarely, create my own by looking at Jepp charts. 2. Copy route into FSRoute and generate an FS flight plan. 3. Calculate fuel needed, weights at push back, top of climb and top of descent, then use those numbers along with the payload onboard to calculate ai...

Re: Get Dave Vega Home From Baghdad Flights - 01Feb2008

I can fly leg #1, but only at the beginning of the window of opportunity. In other words, if I don't do it Thursday night (Jan 31 local time, Feb 01 UTC), I won't be able to do it until Feb 10. Heck, I might just do it anyway since my plane is presently at ORBI awaiting return to EBBR (I haven't yet...

Re: Around the World Flight

Now, I was wondering, has anyone flown westerly round the world yet? I'm in progress. Started with my 15th anniversary flight to Tampa and am currently in Singapore with just one leg to go. Hope to find time to do it this month. EBBR - KTPA 9.1 KTPA - KSFO 4.9 KSFO - YSSY 14.5 YSSY - WSSS 8.0 WSSS ...

One goal of the airline should be to reduce the number of aircraft types when feasible to take best advantage of economies of scale. Compared to the other types, the MD83 has few routes and few aircraft. I'd suggest reallocating the flights of N555SX, N556SX, N563SX and N565SX to the A320 (26 flight...

The difference is, the real one has a ton more airplanes and vehicles on the ramp. Wish Flight Sim was more populated.

Thanks again everyone. My total of a little over 500 hours with SAX is actually pretty accurate. Sure, I got a ton more hours just playing around in various versions of Flight Sim and FA:ATP, but they don't count towards my total with our little airline. A couple years ago, I pored over my personal ...

Neil, what other method could one use to determine an optimal flight level(s) for a flight? No idea Dave. In FS2004 the wing incidence isn't modeled, so the planes fly too far nose up. As a result, my primary altitude choice is one that keeps the nose down far enough to let me see out the windshiel...

Dave, the link got lost in formatting. Working link is http://www.fltplan.com The "suggested" flight level seems to be accurate only for flights starting and ending in the US. For any European or North Atlantic flights I enter, it seems to automatically pick FL370, regardless of which dire...
