Flying the Beech 1900D

Post by David Vega »

Fellow Captains,

With more Beech 1900D (B190) flights available, more of you are taking to the skies with this great airplane. Unfortunately we don't have a manual for any of our aircraft, but there are some resources available for you on the Internet. For the B190, start at West Winds Virtual Airline's great B1900D Pilot Operating Handbook. This was made from a real B190 POH. You can find it at http://www.flywestwind.com/Hangar/TProp ... /b1900.htm. While there browse around, I'm sure our friends at West Winds Airlines do not mind. They have a very good virtual airline that has been around for quite some time.

On flying the B190, here are some guidelines:

Takeoff and climb

Set one notch of flaps
Set properler pitch full forward
Set power to 100% torque
Rotate based on Vr (usually around 105kts)
Use pitch to keep speed at V2
Retract flaps at around 500 ft AGL and turn on yaw damp
Set torque to 96%
Decrease prop RPM to 1550

Cruise
Set power to 450lbs/hr

Descent
Begin descent and allow airspeed to increase up to the barberpole or 247kts, whichever is higher
Adjust power setting to maintain descent

Approach
Be at 160kts speed and one notch of flaps when intercepting final approach course
At final approach fix, set gear down, flaps to full and prop to 1700RPM
Above decision altitude your speed should be aprox 123kts (check the tables for the right Vref speed)
Set yaw damp off

Hope this help. Again, any questions or clarifications, post away.
