Does it have to be completed in eighty days or less? Sounds like fun. Think I'll try it from Katl.

I did it! I had a couple of days off this week so I was able to complete the 5 legs in about 4 days. I encountered lots of weather systems and different flight procedures and it was neat being south of the equator for the first time. Today is my birthday so what a nice present to myself to complete this tour. I think everyone should at least try it once.

Way to go Lyle. Good way to spend your time off.
I went around the world in the Learjet in FS98 back in January and February of 1998. Here's the route I took.
KSNA - Orange County, CA
KPHX - Phoenix Sky Harbor, AZ
KABQ - Albuquerque Sunport, NM
KDFW - Dallas-Fort Worth, TX
KMSY - New Orleans, LA
KMIA - Miami International, FL
San Juan, PR
Port of Spain, Trinidad
Natal, Brazil
Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Kinshasa, Zaire
Nairobi, Kenya
Seychelles Island
Columbo, Sri Lanka
Bangkok, Thailand
Hong Kong, China
Tokyo Haneda, Japan
Midway Island
Hilo, HI
KSNA - Orange County CA
59.6 hours in 19 flights.
Have also done trips around South America and all the Caribbean islands and one unique trip around the US, landing at the airport (nearest to downtown) of the capital city of every state in the union (53 flights for 80.2 hours - extra flights for positioning from Honolulu to Hilo and getting to/from my starting point of Orange County, CA).

Hey Lyle
I 'worked' those guys when I was controlling on VATSIM in Oakland Oceanic. All that non radar stuff. Postition reports. Was doing some other computer work and was signed on as control for 8 hours - they didn't make it all the way through. That Sydney -LAX is a hike!

Excellent job!! That is quite an accomplishment. I'm really glad I did but probably won't do it again, once was enough. That YSSY KSFO is ONE LONG LEG!! Congratulations.

Nice going Marty! Hope you enjoyed your world tour.
Now, I was wondering, has anyone flown westerly round the world yet?

Re: Around the World Flight
The approach into Sydney was the highlight of the trip. The approach had the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Opera House, and the main city off the left side. Nice!!

Re: Around the World Flight
If anyone is interested, here's just one westerly around the world flight schedule that I came up with:
FLT# - DEP - ARR - BLK - TYPE
319 - KTPA - KSTL - 2.2 - B767
351 - KSTL - KSFO - 4.1 - B767
42 - KSFO - YSSY - 14.5 - B747
599 - YSSY - WSSS - 7.9 - B747
59 - WSSS - EBBR - 12.8 - B747
592 - EBBR - TJSJ - 9.3 - B767
191 - TJSJ - KTPA - 3.0 - B767
Total block time: 53.8 hrs.
This schedule will take you to all SAX hubs including our unofficial TJSJ hub. And you could start the tour at any hub. Of course, you can choose your own westerly tour schedule.
Opps! I forget to add a leg to ATL hub. How could I have forgoten to do that?

Re: Around the World Flight
I completed my first around the world flight. I used a west route. My route took me to all of the SAX hubs along with a stop in San Jaun. Here was my route with actual block times and distances:
FLT# - DEP - DES - BLK - DIST
351 - KSTL - KSFO - 4.1 - 1499
42 - KSFO- YSSY - 14.5 - 6630
599 - YSSY - WSSS - 7.9 - 3405
59 - WSSS - EBBR - 12.8 - 5744
592 - EBBR - TJSJ - 9.2 - 3840
185 - TJSJ - KTPA - 3.0 - 1092
263 - KTPA - KATL - 1.4 - 435
266 - KATL - KSTL - 1.5 - 471
My total block time was 54.4 hours and distance was 23,116 nm.
I'm pleased to say that I was on-time for each leg. And I nailed the scheduled block times right-on except for the EBBR-TJSJ leg where I was only about 4 minutes early but still on-time. Looks like our flight scheduler did a fine job of setting up the flight times.
I hit some 100 kts headwinds on the San Francisco - Sydney flight. I flew over a few TStorms but for the most part the flights were pretty normal.
The trip was interesting but it might be a while before I do that again. I'll have to go east on the next one.
Here's a few screen shot I took. Click on the thumbnails for full size view.
